Scammers continue to call residents of Lanark County requesting parts of their Social Insurance Number (SIN). Please do not give out your SIN or any part of it to someone who calls by phone that you do not know. Never correct when misinformation is given – this is often done so you provide the scammer with the correct information which they can then use to create false identities.

Remember: if it seems too good to be true, it probably is. If you are selling items on KIJJI or other forms of social media remember, most people do not put money out without seeing the item in person. And people are not going to pay double the amount for items sight-un-seen and have the item shipped long distances. These are common fraudulent actions. Don’t cash the cheques and don’t send the items.
