TIP OF THE WEEK: If someone is trying to blackmail you for money online (threat to send pictures to contact list for example) DO NOT send money. The person is not honest and there is no guarantee they won’t come back asking for more money; which happened in two separate instances between December 23-27, 2019 within Lanark County.
Lanark County OPP wish to advise residents that it is NOT normal for family members or friends to request you send them assistance in the form of gift or GOOGLE play cards; especially in large amounts (example $4,000). If you receive an email requesting same, please call the person and verify it was indeed them sending the message and not someone who hacked their email account.
