Lanark County OPP report

Between Monday, May 11 and Monday, May 18, 2020 officers from the Lanark County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to 292 calls for service. 

The calls included:

Motor Vehicle Collisions
Total: 14            Including:
Car / Deer: 3
Parking Lots: 5
Single Motor Vehicle off Road (“in ditch”): 1

Impaired Drivers – 1
On May 16, 2020 just after 2:30 p.m., Carleton Place OPP received a traffic complaint on Highway 15, near the village of Franktown. The vehicle was located and stopped just coming into the Town of Smiths Falls and the driver spoken to. The interaction resulted in the arrest and charge of Dana LAFLAMME, age 30, of Ottawa, Ontario for Operation while Impaired and Operation while Impaired – Over 80. The accused’s driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for 7 days. Release was by way of an Undertaking with a scheduled court date of July 20, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth.

Domestic Incidents – 10
Carleton Place OPP were called to a residence in the Town of Carleton Place on May 14, 2020 just before 1:00 a.m. regarding a domestic incident. Officers attended and spoke with both parties involved. As a result of the investigation, a 35 year old resident of the home was arrested and charged with Spousal Assault. The accused was released from custody on an Undertaking with a scheduled court date of July 13, 2020, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth.

Taking his ex’s vehicle without consent on May 15, 2020 around 9:00 p.m. resulted in several criminal charges for a 28 year old resident of Mississippi Mills Township. The accused was located by Carleton Place OPP, arrested and charged with Take Motor Vehicle Without consent, Failing to Comply with Probation Order and Failing to Comply with Release Order. As the original charges are domestic related, the accused will not be identified. He was held for a bail hearing the following day at the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth. 

Carleton Place OPP were called to a residence in Beckwith Township on May 16, 2020, just before 1:00 a.m. regarding a domestic incident. A 41 year old male was arrested and charged with three counts of spousal assault and one count of mischief – destroys or damages property. The accused was later released from custody on an Undertaking with a scheduled court date of July 27, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth. The victim sustained minor injuries from the incident.

Break and Enters – 1
Lanark County OPP were called to a property on Highway 43 in Drummond-North Elmsley Township on May 16, 2020 around 2:00 p.m. regarding two people breaking into a trailer. Police attended to conduct their investigation but the suspects were gone upon arrival. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call police at 1-888-310-1122.

Thefts – 14
A 62 year old female was charged with Theft Under $5,000 after being stopped by store security at a Carleton Place grocery store on May 11, 2020 around 3:30 p.m. The accused was released from custody on an Appearance Notice.

Officers from the Lanark County OPP were called to a business on Dufferin Street in the Town of Perth on May 14, 2020 just before 10:00 a.m. regarding a male currently in the store who had been caught on video, stealing the week prior. Police attended and arrested Jeremy SCOTT, age 42 of Ottawa, Ontario and charged him with three counts of Theft Under $5,000 in relation to three occurrences between April 28 and May 14, 2020. The accused was released from custody on an Undertaking with a scheduled court date of August 17, 2020, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth.

On May 11, 2020 Carleton Place OPP were contacted regarding the theft of 4 Volkswagen hub caps from an orange vehicle parked for 15 minutes while the owner was inside a retail store on McNeely Avenue in Carleton Place between 3:00 – 3:15 pm. Anyone with information regarding this incident or the whereabouts of the missing hubcaps is asked to contact police at 1-888-310-1122 or Lanark County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).

Lanark County/Carleton Place OPP received 5 gas “drive-off” calls and 5 thefts from vehicles calls between May 11-18, 2020. The thefts from vehicles occurred in Lanark Highlands Township, Drummond-North Elmsley Township and the Town of Perth. Two of the incidents involved theft of licence plates. Police strongly recommend residents lock their vehicles and to NOT LEAVE VALUABLES in your car in plain view; especially your wallet or purse.

Mischiefs – 10
Carleton Place OPP received several calls between May 11-18, 2020, in the town and in Mississippi Mills Township involving mischief to vehicles including sugar in a gas tank, a smashed windshield and a vehicle being keyed. If you see anything suspicious in your neighbourhood, call police.

Frauds – 10
Online safety is only as good as your password and computer/phone security. Ensure you change your password every few months and don’t have the same password for all your credit cards or websites. Remember, whatever is on your computer or phone is accessible to anyone that has access to your device so never share passwords.

Liquor Licence Act Charges – 3
A 43 year old resident of Carleton Place was arrested for public intoxication by Carleton Place OPP on May 15, 2020 just before 3:30 p.m. after being found walking on McNeely Avenue with a large bottle of alcohol. Once sober, the person was released unconditionally.
