Carleton Place makes recycling decision

by | Jun 10, 2020 | Local News | 0 comments

At Tuesday evening’s session of Carleton Place council, Councillors discussed and voted on a motion to make producers responsible for recycling costs.

Council set the date of Jan 1 2023 for producers to become responsible for the recycling of their products and packaging offered in town.  Carleton Place recently entered into a joint agreement with other Lanark municipalities for a new collection firm which will introduce a dual-stream recycling system for residents later this summer.  They set this contract to end on the same date in 2023.  It’s a move being duplicated in many municipalities across the province to help shift the local financial burdens of recyclables processing to their root sources.

While households have not experienced any change in recycling collection as of yet, Deputy Mayor, Sean Redmond indicated that info sheets would be delivered with new boxes this summer with instructions on the new schedules and collection sorting.

The plan would see paper and cardboard collected one week with plastics and metals the next.
