Discussion begin on safely resuming in-person meetings for Lanark County Council
At Wednesday’s Lanark County Corporate Services committee meeting, it was evident from discussion around the virtual table that Councillors were eager to get back to a real piece of meeting furniture and return to in-person meetings as soon as safely possible.
While the formal council meeting at the beginning of the evening saw a motion passed to change procedural bylaws to permit the continuance of virtual meetings, a related motion during the Corporate Services committee session later on received a much different response.
Several Councillors spoke of the difficulties with poor audio quality of telephone conference calls as well as their inability to effectively interact with each other and staff during discussions, debates, and votes to achieve what’s best for residents.
They directed staff to bring forward proposals to resume in-person council and committee meetings with details on how the council chambers might be modified for optimum safety while keeping within the current provincial rules on indoor gatherings.
This motion was carried with expectations of a full report no later than September.
