Lanark County receives funding for social services
Lanark County council learned Wednesday of a substantial funding envelope from the province for social services at their virtual community services meeting.
Director of Lanark County social services, Emily Hollington told the committee that the county was notified on August 12th that it would receive just over $1M of the $362M Ontario Social Services Relief Fund’s phase 2.
Her office was given a tight deadline of Sept 11th to provide a detailed business case to the province on how those funds would be allocated. The request for expressions of interest went out shortly after the provincial notification arrived and 8 groups submitted proposals totaling $2.2M.
Hollington recommended that the county’s response indicate allocating $500K each to Lanark County Interval House, and Shardon Manor, $40K to Victoria House and $18K to Rideau Ferry Country Home.
Interval House plans to use the funds to acquire property to expand their services to women and children at risk which has seen a spike in demand this year.
The committee approved the recommendations.
