by | Oct 15, 2020 | Local News | 0 comments

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers across eastern Ontario laid a total of 1460 charges over the Thanksgiving weekend, as part of Operation Impact. Officers conducted traffic stops on nearly 1600 vehicles between the Quebec border and Quinte West, as well as in Ottawa and the Ottawa Valley.

The charges included:

  • Speeding – 1109
  • Stunt Driving – 55
  • Failing to wear a seatbelt – 39
  • Distracted Driving – 22
  • Impaired Driving – 24

“It’s very disturbing to see so many drivers choosing to exceed the posted limits, some of them at dangerous speeds, putting not only themselves, but their passengers, other motorists, pedestrians and cyclists at risk,” said Inspector David Tovell, OPP East Region Manager of Traffic and Marine Programs. “It’s even more disturbing to see the number of people getting behind the wheel while impaired and those failing to buckle up. This is simply unacceptable.”

OPP officers across East Region and the rest of the province will continue to be out on the roads 24/7 looking for those drivers who put lives in danger.

Road safety is everyone’s responsibility. Please, stay safe.
