Foundations supporting Perth & Smith Falls District Hospital announce amalgamation
The Smiths Falls Community Hospital Foundation and Great War Memorial Hospital Foundation announced Wednesday that the boards of directors of both foundations have agreed to combine their efforts to raise funds for the Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital. The amalgamation will be finalized in early 2021 and a new entity will be established: The Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital Foundation.
Irv Mazurkiewicz, chair of the joint Capital Alliance Committee that was formed to oversee the formation of the new foundation, said “We have one hospital and we felt this was the right time to officially bring our two foundations together into one new entity as we continue to support the hospital for the whole community.”
Throughout their history, both foundations have worked to fill the gaps where provincial funding ends, allowing the Perth and Smith Falls District Hospital to expand the services it offers to the community and maintain exceptional quality health care for residents here in the community, close to home.
The chair of the Smiths Falls Community Hospital Foundation, Sean Lawrence, said, “For donors, the only thing that will change is the name. Separately, each foundation has contributed millions of dollars in support of the hospital and that mandate will continue to be our top priority. This is an opportunity to eliminate duplicated effort and simplify operations.”
Dr. Kathy Wickens, chair of the Great War Memorial Hospital Foundation shared, “We’re incredibly proud of the work we’ve done as individual foundations and we recognize that we can serve both the hospital and the community even more effectively together.”
Both foundations will continue to gratefully accept donations through either foundation website throughout the 2020 giving season. The contributions from our donors continue to make it possible for the Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital to maintain, enhance, and expand health care services for all residents.
The Smiths Falls Community Hospital Foundation is a registered charity that was established in 1981 to help meet the growing financial needs of the Smiths Falls site of the Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital. The Foundation works with generous community donors in order to provide the hospital with necessary funds for medical equipment, and to modernize inpatient and outpatient facilities that are not provided by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.
The Great War Memorial Hospital Foundation is a charitable organization which was established in 1982, and exists to financially support the acquisition of medical equipment and the expansion of services and facilities at the GWM Site of the Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital. Through active solicitation and recognition of donations, the Foundation serves as a conduit of community support, linking donors and the general public with the Hospital.
