Carleton Place Councillor Theresa Fritz passes away suddenly
The town of Carleton Place has reported the sad news that Councillor Theresa Fritz has passed away suddenly.
The town released the following statement on its Facebook Page:
It is with great sadness that we share with the community the sudden and unexpected passing of Councillor Theresa Fritz.
Theresa has been a valued member of the Carleton Place Town Council for the past 7 years and her contributions towards bettering her community will be greatly missed.
Our thoughts and condolences are with her family at this difficult time, particularly with her husband Scott and her son Shane.
Mayor Doug Black also released a statement. “Anyone who knew Theresa knew how passionate she was about her community and her role in ensuring its bright future for both current residents and future generations,” wrote Mayor Doug Black. “The impact of the loss of Theresa will be felt far and wide throughout the community as she was a beloved friend to many, and she will be dearly missed by her fellow Councillors and Town Staff.”
In addition to her seven years on town council, Theresa volunteered in many ways in her community. She served on the boards of Lanark County Interval House and Community Support, Carleton Place & District Youth Centre, Carleton Place & District Memorial Hospital Foundation and the United Way among others.
She was also a journalist at one point, including a stint with the Carleton Place Canadian Almonte Gazette.
The flags at Carleton Place Town Hall have been lowered to half-staff in her honour. The Councillor leaves behind her husband Scott and her son Shane.
