May 3-9 is Mental Health Week in Canada
Smiths Falls Mayor Shawn Pankow addressed Mental Health Week at Monday’s Committee of the Whole. Pankow emphasized that mental health is “an essential part of everyone’s health and well-being” that must be promoted and protected to ensure positivity and growth in every individual.
Mayor Pankow added that the Town of Smiths Falls has a responsibility to promote mental health awareness at a time when social distancing remains one of the key tools in the fight against COVID-19.
The COVID-19 pandemic has been especially damaging to the social connections that usually flourish in communities, with sports arenas and themed festivals being just a few of the unifying elements that have been shut down within municipalities to curb the rise of COVID cases.
Residents are encouraged to reach out to family, friends, and local health units if they feel they are struggling with mental health issues.
