Work on grant money for Railway Museum of Eastern Ontario continues
The Railway Museum of Eastern Ontario could receive $40,000 from the Town of Smiths Falls after they resubmit a Community Grant application that was previously obstructed by an account in arrears.
At this week’s Committee of the Whole, Councillor Chris McGuire suggested the application process be waived considering the difficulties posed to the museum by COVID-19.
But Councillor Peter McKenna suggested a bypass of the application would be unfair to small businesses and other entities that went through the application process.
While councillors expressed unanimous support for the museum and recognized its uncharacteristic drop in revenue and visitors, it was decided that the operators of the museum should resubmit an application so that a larger discussion of their needs can begin.
