REAL Volunteers just over a week away from first de-paving project in Smiths Falls
Rideau Environmental Action League volunteers will be removing 100 square meters of asphalt by hand with their first De-pave Paradise project in downtown Smiths Falls.
They’ll be doing so on Daniel Street between Town Hall and the Smiths Falls Public Library on June 19th, a week from tomorrow.
The group says the initiative will show how communities can create green spaces to divert water from our sewer systems and allow it to filter into the soil before entering our waterways, keeping our water cleaner.
Later, volunteers will be planting two butterfly and pollinator gardens of native plants and shrubs within that space.
Mayor Shawn Pankow and several Councillors will be taking part.
