Smiths Falls considers Town Hall renovation options
Accessibility, I.T. capability, and retention of heritage elements are the guiding forces behind the third phase of the Smiths Falls Town Hall renovation.
At Monday’s Committee of the Whole, Dan Wojcik of +VG Architects presented Smiths Falls council with three configuration options for the two floors of Town Hall. Wojcik explained that each configuration was designed with accessibility in mind, to better serve future councillors and members of the public. Along with physical accessibility, the communication technology used within Town Hall will also be upgraded to ensure livestream broadcast capabilities and online presence for the Town.
Wojcik added that redundant mechanical infrastructure will be removed for upgraded building systems, although heritage elements will be retained and restored wherever possible. Expanding the gallery was also discussed, as it would provide more audience space during public forums.
Designs for the renovation are expected to be completed for tendering in the fall.
