Smiths Falls to re-instate fees for municipal parking lot at William and Market streets
Beginning August 3rd, the Town of Smiths Falls will reinstate fees for the municipal parking lot on the corner of William Street and Market Street.
In response to the COVID-19 State of Emergency instated in March of last year, Smiths Falls council authorized an exemption to parking lot fees and metered parking as a means of offering relief to residents who were struggling financially from the effects of the pandemic.
At Monday’s Committee of the Whole, Deputy Clerk Nadine Bennett requested Council’s permission to rescind the exemption as acknowledgement of Ontario’s entry into Stage 3 of the provincial reopening strategy. The lot, containing approximately fifty spaces, will be available for $5 daily or $25 monthly parking permits, with an overnight parking permit process “launched at a later date and advertised appropriately.”
The decision to rescind the exemption was passed unanimously at the following Meeting of Council Monday evening.
