Climate Network Lanark is joining 350.org’s “On Fire” Day of Action tomorrow, Thursday, July 29th to push our elected officials and candidates to sign a Climate Pledge

The group will hold a demonstration on public property in front of Shoppers Drug Mart in Perth, at Hwy 7 at 11:45 am. 

A statement says Climate Network Lanark and others have rallied at that location over the past few years to call for stronger action to address the climate crisis. We have had exceptionally strong support from drivers along Hwy 7.

The hundreds of deaths from the climate crisis already this year, including in Canada, the floods in Europe, early extreme forest fires in western North America, and numerous other climate catastrophes are clear evidence that we all must take more substantive action. 

The group has invited MP Scott Reid, other federal candidates and potential candidates to sign a pledge for a moratorium on new fossil fuel infrastructure and a freeze on current projects for a just transition for fossil fuel workers. They plan to deliver that document to Reid’s office in Perth.
