Perth siblings raises hundreds to help Afghan women and refugees
The O’Neill kids from Perth have raised hundreds of dollars to help Afghan women and refugees.
Will is in Grade 6 while Lucas is a Grade 4 student. Campbell just started Grade 1. They all attend the Queen Elizabeth School in Perth.
Torie O’Neill a teacher with the UCDSB and the kids’ mother said they were talking about the situation in Afghanistan – on a kid-appropriate level – and all of them wondered what they could do for the people living there.
They decided to set up a pop-up shop, selecting one thing they enjoy and wanted to sell. Over the Labour Day weekend, they set up tables in Smiths Falls and Perth, one day per town, on their grandparents’ front lawns.
To date, the pop-up sales and donations have raised $1,300. They plan to donate the money to the Canadian Women for Women in Afghanistan organization and to local refugees.
