Online voting allowed in Smiths Falls during 2022 municipal election
At last night’s regular session of Smiths Falls council, a bylaw was passed to enable online voting at the next municipal election in October of 2022.
Responding to changes in provincial legislation, Smiths Falls is joining a growing number of Ontario municipalities in moving to online and telephone voting.
A similar bylaw is due to come before Carleton Place council next week.
Councillor Niki Dwyer reported that there would be public awareness and education campaigns long before election day to ensure that residents were informed on how the system will work.
The voting time period will be extended to several days with personnel available to answer questions.
