Confederation Bridge back on Smiths Falls Council’s radar

by | Nov 23, 2021 | Local News | 0 comments

The Confederation Bridge has been an on again off again focal point for Smiths Falls councils over the past decade but it looks as if they’re ready to try again.

Councillor Lorraine Allen said when she was elected over 11 years ago one of her main goals was to repair the confederation drive bridge.

Councilor Peter McKenna said there’s been more pressing issues in the past.

Four previous studies have been completed in the past with the intent to move forward but they were deferred for one reason or another.

Council is once again working towards repairs after green lighting an environmental study Monday night on replacing the bridge.

We’ll see what happens this time around, as Public Works and Utilities Director Paul McMunn says the design and usage of the bridge can be crafted by next summer through staff, council, and public input.
