Local Health Unit confident in back to school safety
When it comes to kids going back to school on Monday, Leeds Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit Medical Officer of Health Dr. Paula Stewart says parents have many reasons to feel their kids will be safe.
The doctor says parents who are worried, should look at the whole package of protections in place in local schools.
Stewart says parents on the fence about sending their kids back to school have much to consider.
One way is by trusting the precautions that have been put in place. Another is remembering that staff who are not vaccinated are tested several times per week.
Yesterday we heard that the province wasn’t going to be notifying parents each time a case is reported. Instead, they’ll be notified when staff and student absences reach 30%.
That said, the province says parents will always have access to absenteeism numbers should they wish to keep an eye on the levels themselves.
