Exodus from larger centres benefits Carleton Place, now the fastest growing community in Canada
New population data from Stats Can shows Carleton Place saw its population grow by nearly four per cent last year, making it the fastest-growing community in the country.
The data shows Canadians continue to move away from big cities as the pandemic continues, opting instead to live in smaller communities, not far from larger centres.
Cowansville, Quebec came in second with a 3.7 per cent growth rate, followed by Wasaga Beach also at 3.7 per cent, but just a touch below Cowansville, and then Woodstock, Ont., which saw its population grow by 3.1 per cent.
Stats Can says personal health, the ability to work remotely, and higher housing costs are among the “most important factors” contributing to Canadians’ decision to move out of larger, urban centres.
All you have to do is drive through Carleton Place to see all the new homes being built to see the growth first-hand.
