by | Feb 28, 2022 | Local News | 0 comments

A Freedom Convoy anti-mandate protest travelled from Smiths Falls to Almonte via Perth and Carleton Place Saturday.

In a joint-statement, the mayors from the towns say the protest remained peaceful and public safety was maintained.

They also said police had been in touch with organizers prior to the protest and that they respect the right of individuals to protest safely.

The Mayors, Smiths Falls’ Shawn Pankow, Perth’s John Fenik, Doug Black from Carleton Place, and Mississippi Mills’ Christa Lowry, said it is their role along with the police to put plans in place to ensure that members of the communities were not put at risk.

The Mayors thank the police for their leadership and open communication with the group behind the demonstration.  Thanks to that they say the peaceful protest had a limited impact on the communities it visited.
