No impact on Big Rideau or local drinking water from Dec. Portland fire station blaze

Rideau Lakes Township hired a firm to complete various environmental testing on and around the site of the former Portland Fire Hall that burned to the ground late last year.
WSP tested site soil and ground water, neighbouring properties’ wells, and adjacent catch basin water and sediment.
They say impacts from the recent fire are evident in the catch basin located directly adjacent to the site, but in the good news column, no impacts to Big Rideau Lake are expected. That could have affected the Rideau Corridor.
They also say there hasn’t been an impact on local drinking water.
The township notes that the consultant-led study on the location of the new fire hall is in its final phase.
